Another Low Profile Bait Casting Reel from SHIMANO for Afforable Price

Another low-profile bait casting reel from SHIMANO is here… And he is the “red one”.

SHIMANO Scorpion MGL ’19 is out soon!

Here are some information of this red reel.

“Red Is Better” Improved Castability and Sensitivity

“Red is three times better”.. From Japanese “Otaku” culture.

Apart from that, but yes this new Scorpion MGL ’19 is very improved with lots of new SHIMANO’s features.

This biggest ones of this reel is Magnum Light Spool as its name “MGL”. This Magnum Light Spool is SHIMANO’s original light weight spool system that gives you better castability, and in this Scorpion MGL ’19 S3D spool system is combined, to gain both of casting distance and accuracy.

This also has Micromodule Gear, which has smaller gear teeth to reduce rounding noise and gain smoothness, that improves reeling sensitivity so that you can get more information from your lures, and those information will give you more chance to seek your dream fish!

HAGANE body, the SHIMANO’s original tough and light metallic body is featured as well, but still 27,000 yen is very much affordable but high end bait casting reel for sure.

Scorpion MGL ’19 vs Antares ‘19

As we introduced you already, SHIMANO is already announced another low-profile bait casting reel, SHIMANO Antares ’19. So what’s the difference in between Scorpion MGL ’19 and Antares ’19?

Comparing by catalogue spec, Antares ’19 has less line capacity, 12lb-100m against Scorpion MGL ’19 has 12lb-130m. That probably is because this Scorpion MGL ’19 is saltwater compatible, so you may be able to think to target bigger fish, as Antares ’19 is only for freshwater, and the main target is bass.

But Antares ’19 has more bearings than Scorpion MGL ’19, 10/1 against Scorpion MGL ’19 7/1.

Antares ’19 also has 3rd age Magnum Light Spool with Silent Tune against Scorpion MGL ’19 has 2nd age MGL, so if you use bait casting reel only for freshwater, Antares ’19 still have merits to pay more than Scorpion MGL ’19, that gives you more smoothness for reeling, which also gain more of sensitivity.

Exciting Drag System is only installed to Antares ’19 as well.

Scorpion MGL ’19 also has XG – extra high gear setting model as well, but personally I don’t think extra high gear is not needed for fresh water fishing, so I assume these models are listed to think about saltwater fishing too.

So, conclusions – better sensitivity for freshwater with higher price is Antares ’19, and still good quality but shares for freshwater and saltwater, Scorpion MGL ’19 is the one, from our view.

Spec and Release Date

This Scorpion MGL ’19 only has one size 150, with right / left handed, but 3 types of gear ratios, normal / high gear / extra high gear (speed gear).

Release date will be on April 2019.
