New and exciting fishing gear is constantly being announced and released, but even among those, one big surprise came from Daiwa recently.
It’s called the Daiwa Emeraldas Stoist RT CGS — the newest model added to the flagship Emeraldas series, Daiwa’s premium Eging Rod lineup for squid fishing.
But what really shocked everyone was the price — 150,000 yen!? And only available through a lottery-based release? Let’s take a closer look at this unbelievable Spinning Rod and see what makes it so special.
A Flagship Rod Packed with Advanced Tech — Going Beyond “Flagship”
The Stoist RT CGS is a special model based on the Stoist RT, upgraded with a unique one-piece carbon grip system developed by Daiwa — called CGS (Carbon Grip System).
This model is said to be the ultimate expression of pro angler Hirohito Yamada’s personal Eging theory — a dream Eging Rod for serious anglers.
The regular Stoist RT is already nearly 100,000 yen and is extremely light and sensitive — yet the RT CGS takes it even further, with improvements in both weight reduction and sensitivity.
What is CGS – Carbon Grip System?
CGS is a unique carbon grip system developed by Daiwa. The reel seat and grip are created using a one-piece, hollow carbon structure — offering incredible sensitivity.
Instead of using EVA grips designed for comfort, this rod features a one-piece carbon reel seat and carbon grip, prioritizing ultimate feel and performance.
According to Daiwa, this design improves vibration transmission by 170% compared to their already high-performance Air Sensor Reel Seat.
So yes — the CGS carbon grip plays a major role in both reducing weight and increasing sensitivity in this Fishing Rod.
Sensitive Blanks and Lightweight AGS Guides Still Present
Just like the regular Stoist RT, the CGS model uses SVF Compile-X Nano Plus — Daiwa’s premium blank material offering superb sensitivity.
Of course, it also features X45X, Daiwa’s top-level structure to reduce blank twisting and improve strength.
For the joint section, V-Joint α is used to create a smooth bending curve — giving the feeling of a one-piece rod even though it’s technically multi-piece.
The guides are Daiwa’s own AGS (Air Guide System) using carbon frames and light C/N ring materials. Reel seat and guide parts are also reinforced with CWS – Carbon Wrapping System for maximum strength.
That said, most of these features are already present in the current Stoist RT. So based purely on specs, the blanks may be similar to the existing model.
Daiwa also claims the guides have been made even smaller in diameter, but the current RT already features ultra-small guides, so it’s unclear if further downsizing was really done — especially since that could increase the risk of line trouble.
ESS – Expert Sense Simulation System
The Stoist RT CGS also features Daiwa’s ESS (Expert Sense Simulation) system — the same technology used in the Heartland series.
This is not a feature of the rod itself, but a system Daiwa uses to design rods. It analyzes how blanks bend and recover using “strain energy” calculations, which helps design rods that match the angler’s feel more precisely.
Put simply, this system helps design rods that behave exactly how skilled anglers want them to — fine-tuning performance at a very high level.
Spec and Release Info
The Stoist RT CGS comes in just one model — the most versatile length for many situations: 80ML.
Its weight is only 75g, which is even lighter than the already light Stoist RT 80LML (80g). This could be the dream rod for those seeking the lightest, highest-performance Eging Rod available.
Release is set for July 2025.
However, there’s a catch: It will only be sold through a lottery, and only through local shops in Japan. That means unfortunately we won’t be able to carry it in our store.
Still… for a rod so extreme in performance, it’s hard not to be curious, isn’t it?
