Which is more “Versatile” Rods? Seabass Rods VS Eging Rods – Seabass Rods and Recommended

Eging and seabase lure game – 2 top of famous game fishing in Japan and lots of fishing rod maker releases plenty of models for those type of fishing.

But we won’t do only one type of fishing but more, depends on the season. For example in this Gold Coast, eging season is mainly from April to September. Of course you can target squids longer, but not many people do and instead, we also chases tailor (aka. bluefish), jewfish, mulloway, australian salmon in winter, and bream, trevally, queenfish, flathead, mangrove jack, or australian bass, murray cod, barramundi by lures or jigs as well.

So, to chase those species by one rod – eging rods and seabass game fishing rods, which is better for “versatile” use?

Today we spot on Seabass rods for versatile use.

Use Seabass Game Fishing Rods for Everything

Targeting seabass is such fun type of fishing. Most major style is game fishing, using hard body lures, soft plastics or even metal jigs, or metal vibrations.

Therefore those blanks are more stronger but thicker than eging rods, which has more power to cast, and to drag fish under the water.
Blank taper varies but major type is regular to regular-fast so well balanced for casting, controlling lures and for fighting to bigger fish.

Therefore you can even fight enough with 80cm fish or more in some cases, even with ML power rods and you can even cast 30g metal jigs.
The length is also longer than usual eging rods, usually from 8’6″ – 11’0″.

If you wish to use your seabass rods to eging, then longer models would not suit so pick the shorter models, max 8’6.
To me, 9’0 or longer rods for eging are so hard to be used, especially when jerking.
Jerk action for eging is unlike the other fishing type, it needs longer stroke with sharp, quick action usually. When you try to do it with long rods, you might hit the tip onto the water, and will make action so hard, or you might move egi too quick, despite squids were actually chasing your lure.

Therefore I recommend to use light models, such as ML power 8’6″ length or shorter like 8’3 seabass rods for versatile use for both eging and lure fishing. With this rod, you can even cast egi longer but in the same time you can even cast 1/4 oz jig heads when the squid time is gone.

One demerit of using seabass rods to eging is the weight.
Seabass rods are often made for mid – large fish with casting lures up to 30g or so, therefore those blanks has more power than eging rods. Instead, weight is increased as well.

These are also designed for casting lures, so lots of models have Fuji K-Guide frames, which have auto tangle prevention shape so they have no issues casting egi lures, but when you jerk your egi all the day, it may tire you more than eging rods.

So, let’s think about this “versatilability”.. I would suggest, if you are mainly lure fisherman who spends most of times for game fishing, but want to do eging for short time, I would recommend the lighter seabass game fishing rods for you.

Conclusions to chose seabass rods for versatile use –

  1. Length: 8’3″ or 8’6″ for on shore fishing, 7’0″ to 8’0″ for boaties
  2. Blank power: ML
  3. Lighter is better
