DAIWA Announced Certate SW New Size – 5000 + 6000 for Shore / Light Offshore

One of DAIWA’s biggest announcement of 21 fishing shows – 21 Certate SW, currently one of only 2 Monocoque Body saltwater spinning reel.
And at the end of this year, this DAIWA 21 Certate SW has additional size – 5000 + 6000 for shore jigging / light offshore fishing.

Let’s see this new size more.

What is 21 Certate SW? – Aluminium Monocoque Body + ZAION Rotor

This is the main feature of 21 Certate SW for all sizes – Aluminium Monocoque body + ZAION Air Rotor.

As DAIWA staff says, Monocoque Body is completely the same as 20 Saltiga body and ZAION Air Rotor is brought from 15 Saltiga.

Comparing to aluminium metal rotor of 20 Saltiga / 21 Twin Power SW, the ZAION Air Rotor is slightly bending when you squeeze with full power. But as I tried, I would just say it might only affect slightly, only when you fight against monster fish, such as black tuna, kingfish / amberjack more than 20kg, monster cods or groupers, because your drag power may be weaker than the actual bending power of ZAION Air Rotor in most cases.

But this ZAION Air Rotor is really light for winding and very smooth, so especially before you hook fish, you can control reel very smooth.

Just one thing about DAIWA’s saltwater Air Rotor, the bail clicking power is a little weaker than others – that was one concern from past Air Rotor for me, and this also happened to 21 Certate SW 10000, the bail does not close still sometimes and can be opened back by line.

Supposedly the spring inside the bail clicking area and therefore, especially after casting, you close the bail to start winding. But sometimes, especially when the line is not sit in the line roller, the line pushes the bail wire up and it comes to be opened again.
Big saltwater spinning reel does not even have auto-close bail system by spinning so the rotor spins with bail opened, and the line keeps off from your reel, which could cause line trouble.
And this, is not happened to 20 Saltiga / 21 TwinPower SW, at least for me.

I really hope this would be solved in this new size.

Difference of 19 Certate LT and 20 Certate SW

Interestingly, 19 Certate LT also has LT5000D size in its lineup – capacity with #2.5 – 300m, and this is the same as 21 Certate SW 5000.

As of the same name “Certate” spec are pretty similar but the weight is pretty different.

19 Certate 5000D-XH1056.229512#2.5-30010/151,000

So what’s really different?
The answer is this – light weight fishing? Or heavy duty fishing?

19 Certate is, of course, targeting for lighter and smaller inshore fishing and therefore the body size is small, thickness of the material is thinner. Light, Compact and Tough – those balance is more for light shore fishing.

But this 21 Certate SW is especially for more tough use, such as rock shore, heavier jigging and offshore use. So, overall is similar but the body size can be a little bigger with thicker materials, and gears can be slightly bigger and thicker as well.
Comparing to the spec, the MAX drag power is slightly stronger – 15kg.

And also, weight balance can be matched up to heavy offshore rods / shore jigging rods.
Sometimes, especially for jigging, Certate LT can be too light against rods weight around 300g or more.

Light and smooth? or heavy duty? Those can be the point of choice.

Smaller Size for New Saltiga?

Actually, we have been being asked from lots of our customers – “Will 20 Saltiga have smaller size?” and we used to say “possible, thought about previous Saltigas.”

Now this, Certate SW has it, so I would assume, 20 Saltiga is highly possible to be added new smaller sizes as well.

Spec and Release Date

This new 21 Certate SW 5000 / 6000 will be on sale at December 2021 as announced.
